Women’s Resource Fair Provides Services and Resources to Empower Women
The Twenty-First Annual Women’s Resource Fair, the largest and longest running San Diego event serving low-income and homeless women, will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. With more than 500 women and 200 children participating each year, this free event offers a wide-range of medical, legal and social services. The Women’s Resource Fair brings together dozens of non-profit organizations, government agencies and volunteers under one roof at Golden Hall in the Civic Center at 202 C Street in downtown San Diego.
“The Women’s Resource Fair offers empowerment for women who are facing economic challenges, women in recovery from addiction or crisis, and those who just need extra support to turn their lives in a more positive direction,” says Cynthia Morgan, Co-Chair of the Women’s Resource Fair. At the Fair, participants may talk to a counselor or lawyer, get a mammogram, sign up for job training or learn about public benefits, among many other services. Breakfast and lunch is provided and, as an extra bonus, all participants receive gift bags. Participants with children may also utilize free child care during the event.
The Women’s Resource Fair has provided much-need services to homeless, low-income, recovering and abused women for twenty-one years. This year, organizers expect a record number of participants. Morgan states, “In recent years, we have seen a marked increase in the number of women participating in the Fair.” Morgan continued, “in tough economic times, it is more important than ever for the community to come together to provide support to low-income and homeless women and their children--that is the goal of the Women’s Resource Fair.”
The Women’s Resource Fair is sponsored by the Lawyer’s Club of San Diego, the San Diego Bar Association, and the San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program. For more information, visit www.wrfsandiego.org.
